Well, even though I wasn't physically at Northwestern University this past August I did speak to Professor Lorena Martin's Predictive Analytics class via satellite about how Predictive Analytics plays a role in making it to the majors!
I bet you are wondering what Predictive Analytic is? And why Professor Martin would ask me to speak about baseball in that particular class? Well according to Wikipedia, Predictive analytics encompasses a variety of statistical techniques from predictive modeling, machine learning, and data mining that analyze current and historical facts to make predictions about future or otherwise unknown events.
So when you think about baseball in terms of getting to the Big Leagues there is a pattern that if followed will definitely help one achieve those goals...for that matter, there are patterns for all successes of life. But we'll just talk about baseball!
Here are the topics I touched on:
-Factors that mold "Big League Talent"
-Journey to "The Show": Youth to MLB
-Injuries (Before & After)
-The Lineup (Positions 1-9)
It was a great opportunity to speak to some graduate school students who were thirsty to learn.
